Gandhinagar: In another apparent violation of the model code, the BJP legislator from Fatehpura in Gujarat, Ramesh Katara, has overreached himself. He allegedly tried to spook voters, saying that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has installed CCTVs inside polling booths and will know who has voted for whom. Further, those who fail to vote for the saffron party will be identified and won’t be given jobs.
There should not be any room for error as Narendra Modi has installed cameras inside the polling stations this time. We will know who has voted for the Congress. Those who don’t vote at all or vote for the Congress will be identified and not given work,” Katara said, as he campaigned for BJP candidate Jaswant Sinh Bhabhor from Dahod.

“Aadhaar and other cards have your photo now; if there are less votes from your booth, he will come to know who did not cast his vote and you will not get work,” he added. The BJP MLA also asked voters to only vote for Bhabhor. “You will see the photo of Jaswant Sinh Bhabhor with the lotus symbol on the EVM. Look for that and press the button. There should not be any room for error,” Katara warned.
On April 6, BJP’s Waghodia MLA Madhu Srivastava had threatened the voters with “dire consequences” if they did not vote for the BJP. The Congress had then filed a complaint with the poll panel, which subsequently issued show-cause notice to Srivastava.
Earlier, Union minister Maneka Gandhi was gagged by the Election Commission for asking Muslims to barter their vote for jobs. Gujarat will see polling in the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls on April 23.
