New Delhi : Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Friday met the three Mayors and Commissioners of the Municipal Corporations and asked them to persuade MCD employees to call of their strike in the interest of the citizens of Delhi. Jung informed the commissioners that the Government of Delhi would be releasing Rs. 493 crores today. While appreciating the pain that the safai karamcharies have gone through due to non receipt of salaries, Jung appealed to them to call off their strike in the greater interest of the citizens of the city. Massive amounts of garbage are piled up in various parts of the city after the sanitation workers in Delhi went on a strike because of a non-payment of salaries for the last three months. The workers were today joined by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who urged them to take their wage battle forward.
