New Delhi: The BJP’s principle of "one man, one post" doesn't apply to Amit Shah. He will continue to be the party's president at least until year-end while also functioning as the country's home minister.
This became clear in a meeting of the party's top national and state leaders that kicked off a membership drive, appointing national vice-president and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as its convener, with Shah personally giving him the target of increasing the membership by 20% over the present 11 crore.
It will be no surprise if Shah continues as the BJP President in the Assembly elections due in December or January, as the party constitution stipulates two full 3-year terms for the post.
Incidentally, Shah’s first term was not a full term as he had taken over in 2014 to complete the remaining term of predecessor Rajnath Singh on latter's elevation as the home minister.
Shah's 3-year term had ended last January but he was asked to continue as the organisational elections were put off in view of the Lok Sabha elections.
This essentially means that the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Jharkhand will be contested under Shah's leadership.
