Jaunpur (Uttar Pradesh): A leopard was locked inside a room at Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh after it strayed into a village bordering a forest and attacked three.

Tension spread after it was spotted hiding inside a bush behind a house.

The villagers informed police and forest officials after the leopard entered a house to take shelter. “We have seen a half photograph of the animal taken from the back. From that picture it seems to be a leopard. Now, it is locked inside the room and there is no one there. The room is locked from outside. Once we see it, we can confirm that it is a leopard,” said forest official, K. P. Pathak. Local residents gathered around the house and climbed the wall to catch a glimpse of the animal.  “People were shouting ‘Tiger! Tiger!’ But we were sure that it can’t be a tiger. Where will a tiger come from? After sometime, I went to the spot. It was hiding behind the bushes and from there it pounced on me. Then my son came with a stick and beat it. Then the leopard left me and attacked him,” said a victim, Ganesh Kumar.
