Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai chaired a meeting on July 8, Friday, to discuss the flood situation in the state. Thus far, 12 persons have died and 13 distrcits, 17 talukas and nearly 300 villages in the state have been affected.
Bommai has made available Rs 735 crores for the Deputy commissioners of the 13 districts for rescue and relief operations. Reportedly, control rooms are also being set up while the state police force has been directed to stay available round-the-clock.
Speaking to the press, Bommai also said that State Disaster Response Force and National Disaster Response Force teams are working in many districts including Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada.
He directed officials to share details of relief measures taken on the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation application since the surveys can only be undertaken once the rains recede in the state.
Bommai Announces Compensation
Bommai said that in cases of damage to house, an immediate compensation of Rs 10,000 will be paid. The Zilla Panchayat engineers have been directed to inspect houses and assess the damage. The compensation will be paid in accordance with the categories of the damage which has been classified in three categories.
