The entry of former union minister and prominent Congress leader Jitin Prasada could be shot in the arm for BJP, which has been facing ire of Brahmins ever since it chose Yogi Adityanath as the chief minister of the state. The Brahmin leaders within the BJP and outside have been accusing the U.P. government of ignoring them and showering all favours to Thakurs.

Jitin a well-known Brahmin face in U.P. has been raising the voice of this community for some time. He was leading a Brahmin outfit and was mobilizing his community on various issues for the last two years. Once a blue-eyed boy of Gandhi family, Jitin was entrusted with the job of moblising Brahmins against BJP government. According to state congress leaders, Jitin Prasad had accused his own party leaders of not supporting his moves and ignoring Brahmin leaders. On Wednesday, while making announcement to join BJP, Jitin said that he was not able to do anything for his own people in the previous party.

With Jitin being on its side, BJP would be able to appease this community. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath soon after Jitin's joining welcomed him and said it would help BJP in the state. In the coming days, the BJP in U.P. is likely to accommodate Jitin on prominent position in the organization or the government and assign him the task to manage Brahmin voters. A senior BJP leader said that Jitin could be nominated in the legislative council in July. BJP in U.P. may get four of its leaders accommodated in the state legislative council in July when four members belonging to Samajwadi Party will complete their tenure.

It may be mentioned that the issue of unrest among Brahmins with BJP was also discussed in the recently held meetings of top party leaders and Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) functionaries in U.P. During the meeting with BJP central leaders, several U.P. BJP ministers had apprised them about the anger in Brahmin community. In the feedback taken from the U.P government's ministers and leaders, it was said that Brahmin unrest should be addressed before the coming assembly polls.
