Jharkhand: Vehicles, Shops Set Ablaze After Communal Violence Erupts In Hazaribagh Over Maha Shivratri Decorations (VIDEO)

A violent clash over the Maha Shivratri decorations in Hazaribagh's Dumroun village led to stone-pelting and arson, with vehicles and a shop set ablaze. Reportedly, a large contingent of police personnel was deployed to control the situation.

Hazaribagh, Jharkhand: A violent confrontation erupted between two groups in Hazaribagh's Dumroun village on Wednesday (February 26) morning over the placement of flags and loudspeakers for the Mahashivratri celebrations. The dispute quickly escalated into stone-pelting, leaving several people injured.

Amid the unrest, three motorcycles and a Baleno car were set ablaze, while another motorcycle and an autorickshaw were vandalised, as per a report by India TV. Additionally, a shop was also torched by miscreants.

Several injured individuals were promptly taken to Hazaribagh Sadar Hospital for medical treatment.

What led to the clash?

According to news reports, the violence stemmed from a dispute over the installation of a religious flag and loudspeakers at Hindustan Chowk during Mahashivratri celebrations. What initially appeared to be a minor argument soon escalated into a communal clash, resulting in stone-pelting, arson, and destruction of property.

Several vehicles and a shop were torched as tensions ran high between the rival groups.

Heavy police deployment to maintain order

In response to the outbreak of violence, reportedly a large contingent of police personnel was deployed to control the situation and prevent further unrest. The district administration mobilised forces from three police stations, with senior officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), personally overseeing the situation.

Although the situation remains tense yet under control, senior administrative officers have not issued any official statements regarding the incident. However, security forces are closely monitoring developments to prevent any further escalation.
