Gets flak for leaving accident site without reaching out to victims in Alto, including two young children; nor did she inquire about their well-being the next day.
Jaipur : The distraught father of the two-year-old girl, who died in a car collision with Hema Malini’s Mercedes Benz, is inconsolable, while the injured mother is constantly asking “Chinni kahan hai,” oblivious to the fact that her daughter is dead.
To add to their agony, neither the actor nor her aides have bothered to inquire about their well-being, even though the actor is also a public representative and BJP MP from Mathura.
The mother’s uncle, who did not wish to be identified, told IANS: “We have told the father, Hanuman Khandelwal, of the death of the child in the accident. He was shocked and has been crying since Thursday night. But we have not told the mother as she is still in a state of shock after the accident.”
The family was travelling in an Alto car when it was smashed by the Mercedes car coming from the opposite direction. The car was being driven by Hema’s driver Mahesh Thakur while the latter was seated in the rear.
Incidentally, the driver has been booked for rash driving. From all accounts, he was speeding on the highway.
Hema Malini has also got flak for leaving the site of the accident without reaching out to the victims of the accident, including two very young children. While two-year-old Chinni died at the spot, her six-year-old brother is in ICU with fractures in both arms and both legs.
Witnesses at the site of the accident said Hema Malini, 66, who was injured on the forehead, was driven away to Jaipur soon after the car crash in a private vehicle by a local BJP leader. Her assistant, who was travelling with her, and the driver of her car also left with her.
The injured children were first taken to a government hospital in Dausa. From there, the family says, it arranged for an ambulance to take the six-year-old boy and his mother, who has multiple fractures, to the Sawai Madho Singh Hospital in Jaipur, about 60 km away.
The family is also bitter that the BJP MP could have at least checked up on the condition of the family after the accident but she did not do so. “We know she (Hema Malini) was also hurt but at least she could have inquired about the well being of the family… (She could have) asked the doctors to give (the family) proper treatment,” said a relative.
Hema’s daughter Esha Deol and son-in-law Bharat Takhtani are at her side. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Medical and Health Minister Rajendra Rathore called on her.
