Jaipur: The Gujjar community on Saturday called off their agitation in the morning after state government gave them a written assurance that if the Bill faces legal problem in the court of law, it will stand by its promise and assurance. The Gujjars and four other communities were given five per cent quota by the state government by making amendments in the Bill which would benefit them in jobs and in securing seats in the educational institutions.
The agitation lasted for eight days as Gujjars and four other communities blocked railways tracks and highways in Rajasthan to demand five per cent quota in jobs and educational institutions. There was pressure from the Gujjar community to end the agitation as two of the martyrs who were killed in the Pulwama attack belonged to the Gujjar community and their last rites were to be performed on Saturday. Col Kirori Singh Bainsala, the community leader, thanked the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for giving a written assurance that it would stand by the community if any legal hindrance arises.
