Chandigarh: Haryana police on Saturday recovered the body of former model Divya Pahuja from a subsidiary canal of Bhakra in Fatehabad’s Tohana area, 10 days after she was shot dead in a Gurugram hotel room and its footage showed it being dragged into a BMW car.
Notably, the development followed after the disclosures by one of the accused, Balraj Gill, a resident of Panchkula, who was arrested at the Kolkata airport on Thursday. Another accused, Ravi Banga, a resident of Hisar, is still said to be on the run.
It may be recalled that Pahuja, 27, was shot dead in a hotel room in Gurugram on January 2, by the hotel owner, Abhijit Singh, from whom she was allegedly extorting money by blackmailing him with some ``obscene pictures’’.

According to media reports, the former model was a girlfriend of Sandeep Gandoli, one of the most wanted gangsters of Gurugram who was killed in a police encounter in 2016. However, she was staying in the Gurugram hotel where she was killed by its owner Abhijeet with the help of his aides Hemraj and Om Prakash.
The police got initial leads about the murder from the hotel’s CCTV footage in which the accused were seen fleeing in a BMW car after dumping Divya’s body in its boot.
The police recovered the car used in the crime on January 5 from Patiala area of Punjab after reaching it through the scrutiny of toll plazas’ cameras of the roads leading towards Delhi, Rajasthan and Punjab. Gill had dumped the body in the said Bhakra subsidiary on January 3 and left the car in Patiala before fleeing but was caught in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, the police have also arrested one Megha, who was in contact with Abhijeet for the past several months, who had also come to Gurugram on Abhijeet’s call, after Abhijeet, Om Prakash, and Gill. Megha was reported to have helped Abhijeet in disposing of various belongings of the victim.
