New Delhi: The national capital and its surrounding areas witnessed a thunderstorm and heavy rain yesterday, which brought some respite from the heat wave that has been sweeping north India and other parts of the country, as Delhiites woke up to a cool 27 degrees.

The temperature dropped to 33 degrees Celsius yesterday, as the average temperature last week has been above 40 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius early this morning, four notches above normal.

Due to massive dust storm and rain, more than 20 flights to Delhi were diverted and many were delayed yesterday.
Most of the flight diversions and delays occurred between 3 to 7 pm.
The storm uprooted trees and damaged sign posts across the city. In Noida, it brought down a huge pole that killed one person and injured another.

The MET office said that the weather will remain pleasant for the next two days. It forecast partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm or dust storm today in Delhi and its adjoining areas. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 38 degrees Celsius.
