Kochi : CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Saturday alleged a ‘match-fixing’ between the Congress and RSS in Kerala to defeat his party-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the May 16 assembly elections.

Addressing a meet-the-press programme here, he referred to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to temple firework tragedy site in Kollam on April 10 as a pointer to the ‘match-fixing’. “State government authorities had said Modi’s visit on the same day of the tragedy was actually a distraction. The Chief Minister’s appreciation of the PM visit came knowing all these …That sounds very strange. This is not a new thing that match-fixing between RSS and the Congress, you have seen it in the past…,” the CPI(M) leader said.

Asked whether “the match-fixing” between RSS and Congress would yield any result, Yechury took a jibe at cricketer Sreesanth, contesting as a BJP candidate in Thiruvananthapuram constituency and said, “That I don’t know when Sreesanth is a candidate” (a veiled reference to the spot-fixing allegations made against him).

Yechury said ouster of UDF government and bringing LDF to power in Kerala was the basic objective of his party in the state. “BJP is a very formidable enemy which for the sake of not only Kerala, but for the sake of India, has to be politically defeated. This is my appeal to Kerala,” he said when asked which was the main enemy for LDF whether BJP or Congress.-PTI
