Raipur: In a high-profile case, NHMMI Hospital in Raipur has come under scrutiny following allegations of negligence, financial exploitation, and misconduct as per the probe committee report. The investigation committee was constituted by the Government of Chhattisgarh.

An investigation committee, formed by the state government, has found the hospital guilty of severe lapses, including illegal monetary demands and inadequate patient care. The committee has recommended registering an FIR against the hospital management and taking further legal action. Sources suggest that the hospital's license could be revoked, and the premises may face closure.

The case involves Bharti Devi, a Raipur resident admitted to NHMMI Hospital on September 2, 2024. Her family reportedly spent ₹20 lakh over a week of treatment, only for doctors to later refer her to Hyderabad. The hospital charged an additional ₹8 lakh for an air ambulance that lacked essential medical equipment and personnel. Tragically, the patient passed away at the airport due to the alleged negligence of the hospital staff.

The victim's family had previously submitted evidence to the police, prompting the government to initiate a detailed inquiry. The investigation uncovered malpractice, including overcharging, negligence, and mismanagement in the air ambulance service. The findings have been submitted to the Raipur Collector and District Magistrate, who are expected to forward the case to the police for further action.

The incident has sparked outrage, with the government reiterating its commitment to holding negligent healthcare providers accountable. This case serves as a warning to other institutions operating unethically in the state.

PRO Ravi Bhagat of MMI when contacted stated that the hospital has not received any notice from the state government. He added that he would check it with the collector's office.
