New Delhi: Expressing displeasure over the Central Bureau of Investigation proceeding slowly in the handling of the 1984 Sikh Riots cases, Advocate H.S. Phoolka on Monday questioned the former for filing closure reports against Jagdish Tytler thrice.

“31 years have passed and the CBI still needs time to investigate the matter. SP (Superintendent of Police) today appeared before court. Court had summoned the SP, because the last time, the CBI had failed to present the report. The CBI filed closure report three times. The CBI is proceeding at a very slow pace and this is very unfortunate. Victims are waiting for justice. The same thing happened during Congress regime and the same thing is happening during Modi’s regime,” Phoolka told ANI here.

Phoolka also said that CBI SP has been granted two more months and the next hearing has been scheduled for April 27.

The CBI on Monday filed a progress report in a Delhi court in sealed cover on its further probe in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was given clean chit by it.

The report was filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shivali Sharma by CBI Superintendent of Police Anurag Singh who was earlier directed by the court to appear before it and explain non-filing of the status report on the last date of hearing.

The court after perusing the report again kept it in the sealed cover at the request of CBI, which said the probe was underway.

After perusing the report in which it was alleged that some witnesses were threatened, the court asked the agency whether any other witness was also threatened.
