Kolkata: Tussle between TMC and BJP remained unabated even during the birth anniversary celebration of Syama Prasad Mukherjee on Wednesday.

The BJP, who held ‘Syama Parasad Yatra’ from Golpark to Hazra More - the area near Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence, slammed Trinamool Congress for not ‘respecting’ Syama Prasad Mukherjee.

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari said that Kolkata is part of West Bengal due to the ‘hardwork’ of Syama Prasad Mukherjee or else it would have been part of ‘Islamic country Bangladesh’.

“The TMC never gave due respect to Syama Prasad Mukherjee. We still live in India due to the struggle of Syama Prasad Mukherjee. Everyone should know and respect the struggle and sacrifice of Mukherjee,” said Adhikari.

Adhikari also mentioned that the BJP will continue with their fight till ‘nationalist government’ is established in Bengal.

“After Maharashtra, BJP will form government even in Rajasthan, Bengal and Telangana where appeasement politics is rampant. By 2024, BJP will form government even in these places,” further mentioned the Leader of Opposition.

Earlier this day, the BJP MPs remained absent from the Assembly while TMC MLAs along with Speaker Biman Bandhopadhyay have shown respect to Mukherjee.

“The BJP thinks that they only own Syama Prasad Mukherjee and while respect was shown to Mukherjee, BJP MLAs remained absent,” alleged the Speaker.

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar slammed Congress and CPI (M) for ‘washing away’ the struggle and hardship of Mukherjee in the fight for Independence.

On the other hand, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar while garlanding the statue of Mukherjee at Kolkata’s Red Road slammed TMC and said, "The democracy is at stake here due to appeasement politics."

“I urge all the Bengali intelligentsia to break their silence and speak on the atrocities happening in the state. Every effort should be made to restore democracy,” mention Dhankhar.

TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said that the Governor should ‘wear saffron’ as he is behaving as ‘BJP cadre’.

Another TMC MP Sudip Bandhopadhyay alleged that ‘silently’ Dhankhar calls TMC leaders including him and seeks appointments to ‘meet’ them.
