New Delhi: The Congress on Tuesday taunted Prime Minister Modi that he has no business to sermonizing the students on examinations after himself failing with a score of 0 out of 10 in his “pariksha” (exam) to govern the country. With what face he can give “gyaan” to the youngsters after failing miserably because of his inaction in corruption cases and protection of institutional integrity.
Though the trigger was the Government’s explanation for inaction in the case relating to CVC (Central Vigilance Commissioner) K V Chowdary on the ground that there are no rules framed for action, the Congress dwelt on the state of affairs in other institutions like CBI, CBDT (Central Board for Direct Taxation), ED (Enforcement Directorate) etc to buttress its charge that all agencies have been systematically undermined.
Party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said: “Modi Government is now hiding behind the ‘imaginary veil of technicalities’ to prevent the imminent removal of CVC, if the law took its course. The Government falsely stated that ‘presently no guidelines to handle complaints of corruption and other misconduct against Chief Vigilance Commissioner/Vigilance Commissioners are in place,’ in response to an RTI query filed by whistle-blower Indian Forest Service officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi.”
He asked as to who is responsible if the guidelines have not been framed and argued: “The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), which is directly under the Prime Minister, has abdicated its constitutional responsibility to act on two complaints received over a year ago against CVC Chowdary. The absence of guideline is a flimsy excuse to protect the CVC who has acted as a collaborator with the Government in many cases, the CBI episode being the latest example.”
