Ghaziabad: Police today arrested four persons in connection with the August 18 arson and violence in Loni town of the district.

The four — identified as Pradeep, Satyendra, Pankaj and Rajesh — were arrested on the basis of video footage of the incident, police said. In the footage, the accused were seen indulging in arson and stone-pelting.

Loni police station SHO Gorakh Nath Yadav said many other rioters have also been identified and will soon be nabbed.

Yadav said cases had been registered against 15 named and 150 unknown persons under Sections 147 (Punishment for rioting), 148 (Rioting with deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 307 (attempt to murder) 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of IPC and Section 7 of Criminal Law Amendment Act.

Besides policemen, personnel of Rapid Action Force and UP Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been keeping a tight vigil in the town to avoid any untoward incident. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC were still in force in the area.

Tension prevailed in Loni town after residents protesting against an alleged rape attempt on a minor girl clashed with police and damaged vehicles.
