Full marks to Manish Mundra who made his debut as a film producer with the critically acclaimed, ‘Ankhon Dekhi’!
Within a short span of time he has emerged as a strong supporter of indie cinema. Ecstatic post the accolades won by his latest production ‘Masaan’ at Cannes, Mundra says, “I always had the conviction in the amazing story of ‘Masaan’. The moment when Varun Grover narrated me almost a year back!! Neeraj did an inspiring directorial debut, converting the heart wrenching story into a equally impressive film that takes our heart on an emotional drive and then the emotions lingers on with you long after you have seen the film. Easily one of my best films, we will now work for ‘Masaan’ to ensure a successful release globally along with theatrical release in India.”
Directed by Neeraj Ghayvan, ‘Masaan’ which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2015, won two awards– FIPRESCI, International Jury of Film Critics prize and Promising Future prize in the Un Certain Regard section.
This comes as a hat-trick for Manish Mundra’s film studio, Drishyam Films. Their previous two projects, DHANAK won two awards (The Grand Prix for the best feature length film of the category, awarded by an inter-national jury) at Berlinale and Umrika won the audience award in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section at the Sundance Film Festival, earlier this year.
‘Masaan’, which stars Richa Chadda, Sanjay Mishra, Vicky Kaushal and Shweta Tripathi in the lead roles, portrays how Benares, the holy city on the bank of Ganges, reserves a cruel punishment for those who play with moral traditions.
