Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Kesari‘ hit the screens on Holi, boosting the film’s collection on the festival release. The film recorded the highest opening day of 2019 and collected Rs. 21.50 crore. The film started a slower morning but covered up in evening with just Rs. 3 crore lesser from Akshay’s last release Gold’s opening day.
Kesari is a historical drama based on the true story of the Battle of Saragarhi fought between 21 courageous Sikhs and 10,000 invaders in the year 1897. The film wasn’t a solo release as it saw competition from Abhimanyu Dassani and Radhika Madan starrer ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’.
Kesari shot over the highest opener, Valentine’s Day release ‘Gully Boy’ which had opened to Rs. 19.40 crore. Whereas Akshay Kumar’s 2018 release Gold had collected Rs. 25.25 crore on Independence Day.
Kesari is expected to face minimal competition in upcoming weeks and the collection is expected to grow more over the weekend.
