You are considered a serious actress for the dark roles that you do.
Are you really that serious?
Firstly I am not at all serious in real life. I love rom-coms a lot. Secondly, that’s all I get offered. I don’t mean to be dark purposely. It’s very frustrating.
I only get scripts where I get raped or something sinister or sexual happens to me.
If not an actor, what would you be?
If I was not acting professionally, I would have become a criminal psychologist. Maybe interviewing some interviewing criminals in the prison.
Are you open to commercial films also? Would you do masala films?
Absolutely, why would I be closed to the idea as long as I enjoy playing the character? Actors can’t be responsible for the entire film; we are not the directors and we can’t make all the choices. The most we can do is, like a script and the story. I like happy films, I’m a Romcom fan. I love the Jennifer Aniston/ Julia Roberts’ films. It’s just that I haven’t been offered those sort of films very often.
Do you think actors get typecast in films very soon?
Absolutely, in fact not just this industry but the world generally! People stereotype you as a person, according to the work they do. People will say this is a ‘Gerard Butler’ or ‘Johnny Depp’ kind of film. We have the tendency to cast people in genres. I think it’s up to an actor to break these stereotypes and surprise not just the audience, but themselves too.
What do you do in your free time?
I love travelling. I took a road trip, taking my car out. I took some friends along because I have been working very hard, and I took some time off to travel to Kamshet, Pune. It was beautiful to take off to the mountains. I love these blueberry trails across Maharashtra that are organised.
