Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan entered in the film industry around the same time and have rewritten the rules of Bollywood. The Khan trio have ruled Bollywood for the best part of last 30 years. They gave hits after hits and showed no signs of slowing down.

Aamir Khan’s last film Dangal broke the ceiling and earned over Rs 2,000 crore worldwide, and once again proved that class and panache are unbeatable. Salman Khan, on the other hand, just suffered a minor setback when his last film Tubelight fared averagely and couldn’t set box office on fire. This brings us to the King of romance and ultimate show stopper Shah Rukh Khan. And, believe it or not, he has been struggling for a long period of time and his box office collections have been consistently poor and below par.

Rough patch?
Is King Khan going through a rough patch or it is just a temporary phase? Shah Rukh rewrote the rules of Hindi film industry with his impeccable acting, adapting to different situations and proving his worth day in day out. But, something has been amiss and last 24 months have been disastrous and shocking to the audience. Shah Rukh prides himself on knowing the audience’s pulse and reinventing himself over different periods of time. Shah Rukh’s latest films such as Happy New Year, Dilwale, Fan, Raees and now Jab Harry Met Sejal have done rather mediocre business at the box office and received mostly negative reviews across the board. Even King Khan is allowed to have couple of flops, but this has been happening for a period of time and despite being a very shrewd actor he is repeating the same mistakes again and again.

Bollywood’s Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar was the ultimate champion, but late in his career he just couldn’t decide when to retire and dragged his career for far too long. Nobody is saying that SRK is over the hill or past his prime but there comes a time, when one has to take stock of situation and decide his next moves very smartly. SRK will turn 52 on November 2 and as they say time and tide waits for none and SRK is no exception.

Looking forward
Shah Rukh Khan has to very calmly decide on his next move and assess why his films are not earning as films of other Khans. Dangal’s record will be very hard to break and even Aamir Khan will struggle to topple it, but King Khan deep down must be knowing that he is losing his charisma and the elusive magic is disappearing. People should ask why are you leaving rather than when are you leaving and Shah Rukh Khan is smart enough to make decision on his career and hopefully he leaves a legacy of excellence rather than that of mediocrity.
