Moulana Azad National Urdu University ( MANU) on Friday launched its Tarana ( anthem) written by poet- lyricist Gulzar, composed by eminent filmmaker and musician Vishal Bhardwaj and sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Rekha Bhardwaj.
What’s more, buzz is that the B- towners who had graced the event in turn refused to take remuneration to show their love for Urdu.
The anthem, penned by Gulzar, starts with the line ” Urdu ki udey khusbhoo” ( the fragrance of Urdu). ” eh Jamia- ezaban- e- Urdu, zaban- e- Urdu kaashian hai” it goes on to describe the university as the abode of Urdu. Expressing his love for Urdu in many of his songs, the noted poetlyricist told the gathering at the recently held event that he is in love with the sweet language and added that the anthem was an inspiration from his past.
Reminiscing his in past, Gulzar also referred to his visit to his hometown in Pakistan after 70 years, and revealed that he had failed in Urdu in the eighth standard.
