As the much anticipated project by Anurag Kashyap unravels slowly and steadily, the stills of ‘Bombay Velvet’ take you back in time. Contrary to the currents scenario of Mumbai, Anurag Kashyap brings back the old roads of Bombay, jazz scenes and a lot of vintage cars, something that very few of us might have witnessed.
Ranbir Kapoor will be seen playing a street fighter in the movie while Anushka Sharma plays the role of Rosie Noronha who is a jazz singer and she is also the love interest of Johnny Balraj aka Ranbir Kapoor. To add to the vintage feel of the movie, designer Swapnil Shinde created looks for Raveena and Anushka with references from the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
The designer has given a very vintage, jazz singer kind of a look to both the actresses because of which they are looking ravishing in the first looks of the film.
Talking about their looks, he says, “The gowns I have made are really different and unique. Apart from Anushka, I have also designed for Raveena. Since it is a period film, the costumes are very elaborate and they have a touch of drama to them. Since Anushka is playing a jazz singer in the film, her look has a lot of inspiration from the ’40s and the ’50s. You will find a lot of references from the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor. I have created fish tail gowns, also a lot of embroidery, feathers and furs will be seen.”
The movie is said to be based on Gyan Prakash’s book ‘Mumbai Fables’ and is set in early 1950s, long before Mumbai became a metropolis. Along with Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, Karan Johar will be seen playing a villainous character in the film.
