The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) has announced minor updates to the syllabus for Classes 11 and 12, affecting several subjects across the language, arts, and commerce streams. These changes, aimed at aligning with the new semester-based system for higher secondary education, will be implemented starting in the next academic year.

In a statement, WBCHSE President Chiranjib Bhattacharyya explained that the revised curriculum has been designed to accommodate the shift to a semester system, which will be used for the board exams. The new system will replace the traditional annual exam format, with assessments now taking place at the end of each semester.

Key Changes

Starting from the academic year 2025-26, students in Classes 11 and 12 will follow a semester-wise examination schedule. This means that students currently in Class 11 will take their board exams under this new system when they move to Class 12.

Official Announcement

According to the official notice issued by the council, the revised syllabus will be included in the upcoming fourth edition of the syllabus book. In addition, the changes will be reflected in the next set of model question papers. The council clarified that these revisions will not affect students currently preparing for the Class 11 Semester 2 exams. “The changes stated in this notification will not impact students who are already preparing for the Class XI Semester 2 examination,” the notice read.

This shift is expected to bring significant changes to how students approach their studies and exams, with a focus on continuous assessment and a more structured learning process.
