The Sri Lankan cricket team's star player Lasith Malinga will return home after today's clash against Bangladesh. On Tuesday, the Sri Lankan cricket board announced that the fast bowler would leave for home after the team’s third game in the World Cup against Bangladesh due to a death in his family.
The cricket board said that Malinga was expected to return to Sri Lanka immediately after the match but was expected to return in time for the next game against Australia on June 15. "Lasith Malinga will leave the team following Sri Lanka’s World Cup Game against Bangladesh, which will be played today, as his Mother-In-Law has passed away. He is expected to join the team, before the team’s next #CWC19 game, which will be played against Australia on 15th," the Sri Lankan Cricket tweeted. "The remains of late Mrs. Kanthi Perera lie at the Barney Raymond Funeral Home at Colombo 08 and the funeral will take place on Thursday, 13th June at the Borella Cemetery,” reported News18.
One of the best pacers in the world, the 35-year-old Malinga is the master of the slow ball, which makes him a go-to wicket-taker. During the 2019 IPL final, the Sri Lankan unleashed the delivery on the last ball which helped Mumbai Indians secure a one-run victory over Chennai Super Kings. After being unsuccessful against New Zealand in first World Cup match, Malinga picked three-wickets against Afghanistan in the second game. Playing in his last World Cup, Malinga will be a crucial player for Sri Lanka.
