In what it might be termed as a major setback to Bangladesh in the ongoing World Cup, its star player Shakib Al Hasan has sustained a thigh injury during the England game last week. Now reports have surfaced saying that Bangladesh's star player is likely to miss the clash against Sri Lanka today.

According to a sports news portal Cricket Addictor, the 32-year old has suffered a Grade 1 strain on his left thigh. Bangladesh team technical manager Khaled Mahmud spoke about the injury and said that there is no surety of Shakib’s presence against Sri Lanka. Khaled Mahmud told portal, “It looks like a Grade 1 strain.” “We are not yet sure whether he can play tomorrow [Tuesday]. It doesn’t look so serious. Shakib was fine yesterday, but seemed to be feeling it a bit more today.” However, during his team’s practice session at Bristol ahead of Sri Lanka clash the premier all-rounder did not bat or bowl raising concerns on his fitness.

Bangladesh cricketer Shakib moved to the top in the ICC ODI rankings for all-rounders last month. The 32-year-old performed well during the tri-nation series against Ireland and West Indies. Shakib scored 140 runs, including two unbeaten fifties. He scored 75 runs off 84 balls to help Bangladesh to post their highest ever ODI total of 330 runs against South Africa in the first World Cup match. In the next match, he scored 64 against the Kiwis and scalped two wickets which gave Bangladesh a fighting chance in the match. He scored 121 against England in the third game.
