India thrashed West Indies by 125 runs at the Old Trafford stadium yesterday, inching closer to the semi-finals. An amusing incident happened during the game.
Sheldon Cottrell was bowled out by a splendid googly of Yuzvendra Chahal and was walking out of the stadium. And Mohammed Shami, enjoying his time bowling out the West Indians, also managed to show his acting skills. Shami imitated the signature marching style order and salute celebration of the Caribbean pacer, which left him with a smile, while the Indian players celebrated the wicket.
While the fans enjoyed this small moment, many took it as a mocking of Cottrell's tribute to his country’s armed forces. He had trained with the Jamaican Army for six months and had picked up his trademark move at that time.
Earlier, thanks to Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, KL Rahul, and Hardik Pandya, India managed to put a total of 268 on the scoreboard. Then, it was Mohammed Shami who showed his tremendous bowling skills and managed to take 4 wickets in the match, restricting the Caribbeans to 143 in 35 overs.
Shami has so far bagged 8 wickets in his two appearances in this tournament, proving his selection worth for the team. India will now face England on June 30 at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
