Kavita Chawla is the first contestant of Kaun Banega Crorepati season 14 which can be seen on Sony Entertainment Television, to win a cash prize of Rs 1Cr. She has struggled for 21 years to participate in this quiz show.
Sharing her excitement about winning the show, Kavita says, “It’s like the tagline of one of the KBC’s - Koshish karne walon ki kabhi haar nahi hoti. We have to work hard to get the fruit. This was a huge dream for me to be selected on KBC season 14 and then earn one crore. I also wanted to be the first woman from Kolhapur to win that one crore… I worked hard. I received huge support from my family. I am happy I have attained success at fulfilling my aim and dreams.”
Talking about her dream of winning KBC, she shares, “I would have continued to work towards that dream. I never like to leave anything half finished. I never retreat. If I had not worked hard, all those 21 years would be a waste. When we leave our aim halfway, it is sort of a defeat of humankind.”
Kavita has been selected twice as a participant for KBC. “I got the opportunity to sit opposite Shri Amitabh Bachchan, not once but twice. This show on Sony Entertainment Television is such a transparent show. No links and relationships ever work here. You have to purely follow the process and be selected. There is no other way to reach here,” she shares.

Talking about her experience of appearing on the show, Kavita says, “The first time when I went there, everything was new. I was not used to operating computers. I was nervous. Being a housewife, operating a computer took me some time. I cried the first time. I remember Amitabh ji consoled me and pepped me up then. I didn’t lose heart but started working towards my participation for the second time. Finally, my dream was fulfilled.”
With the winning amount, Kavita plans to invest in her son’s education and buy a house in Kolhapur.
Kavita also received tremendous support from her family, especially her son who has seen her journey. “My son is obedient, disciplined, and supportive. We are not like mother-son. We have a friendly equation. He has seen me reading throughout the night and preparing to participate in KBC. He has also witnessed my time management. My son understood the importance of my preparations as I couldn’t concentrate with the television on. He was so understanding that he would stop watching TV for me. I just want to send a message to children that they should support their parents as they bring them up with their painstaking efforts.”
On a parting note, Kavita talks about how her life has changed after winning one crore in KBC. “My life has totally changed. This is not a show of money. My dignity has risen after participating in this show. I have turned into a star,” she signs off.
