Chandrachur Singh is known for films like Maachis (1996) and Josh (2000), among others. With Aarya season 1, he made his OTT debut and was recently seen in the Akshay Kumar-starrer movie Cuttputlli. In an exclusive chat with The Free Press Journal, he opens up about his recent movie and more. Excerpts:

Do you feel that OTT has finally given you the due as an actor?

It’s been exciting, and I am having fun working on the medium. It gives me the opportunity to play very diversified characters and also gives time for the character to build up throughout the show through various episodes, unlike in films. However, my journey in films has been exciting too.

You have been working since three decades. How do you see the current changes in the industry?

I feel there have always been trends in our industry. During the ’90s, the whole format of cinema with single screens was very different, but with satellite invasion, home viewing increased massively. With the emergence of OTT today, we are all just a click away from global exposure. Some changes are always exciting.

Audiences have never been forgiving. What is your take on their behaviour today?

We always had discerning audiences. I strongly believe that bad stuff never works and things that people like always work. This has been the rule of law since ages, only the platforms have changed.

You have never worked with Akshay Kumar in the 1990s. How was it working with him in Cuttputlli?

I was supposed to work with him in the ’90s but it didn’t work out since I believe every film has its own destiny. Years later, I got to work with him, and it was surreal. He is such a multifaceted actor. He is excelling and at the top of his game, so it is exciting to have him as a co-actor.

What was your character prep while playing a cop in the film?

I guess I’m more or less instinctive in my film choices or the way I portray my characters. Also, as an actor, you evolve with your life experiences. I am more spontaneous and don’t prepare much. I go by the feel of the script and character.
