Bollywood's Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan, who is gearing up for the release of 'Laal Singh Chaddha', recently revealed that he had almost lost the film to his own son Junaid.
While speaking to The Indian Express, Aamir shared that while he had been wanting to remake 'Forrest Gump' as 'Laal Singh Chaddha' for 14 years, he was not sure if he could hand it over to director Advait, who had earlier helmed 'Secret Superstar'.
He went on to say that just to test Advait's skills, Aamir asked him to do some test scenes from 'Laal Singh Chaddha' with his own team and that is when the superstar's son Junaid stepped in as Laal.
Aamir shared that he when he saw the test video, he was stumped by Junaid's performance. "I knew mera chance gaya. That innocence of Laal was out there while I would have to act it out. I showed the film to close to 100 people including my family, friends and colleagues from Raju Hirani, Karan Johar to Aditya Chopra, and 98 felt that I should take him," he said.
However, it was only actor Atul Kulkarni and filmmaker Aditya Chopra who were adamant that Aamir should do the film instead of Junaid. "They argued that the film was not plot driven but rather episodic and thus a newcomer shouldn’t do it," he said.
'Laal Singh Chaddha' is the official remake of Tom Hanks' classic 'Forrest Gump'. It also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in key roles, with Aamir playing the titular role.
The film is scheduled to hit the silver screens on August 11.
