BHOPAL : Tuesday is the International World Yoga Day. Since last year, we have dedicated a particular day for Yoga but there are people who have dedicated year after year, practicing Yoga, which changed their lives. Yoga, a cure for many diseases, is now a part of their life. With every breath they take, they thank Yoga and their instructors who helped them master this ancient life changing art.

Kanta Lawani

Kanta suffered from severe skin allergy, which made her cringe from society and left her mentally traumatised. Having rashes and pimples all over her skin, which secreted pus, she tried both allopath and homeopath but it came back again. She turned to Yoga and within a year she felt the difference in her skin. Her diabetes came into control and now she is fit and absolutely fine. “I was very depressed because of my illness but Yoga healed me completely. For the first six months, I just felt mental peace, it was after a year that I noticed my allergy was reduced a lot. And today, I don’t have any problem”, she said smiling.

Dr ND Sharma

Being a doctor himself, Dr N D Sharma, turned to Yoga after suffering from slip disc and sciatica, which left him bed ridden for a month. He began trying Yoga by watching Baba Ramdev on television and today at 80, he can walk all by himself and has no problem in his spinal cord, in his joints and muscles. “It was in 1996, I started Yoga after my disc collapse in s1 vertebra and till date I am as fine as I was during my youth”, said Dr Sharma.

Reeta Ahluwalia

“I started doing Yoga 8 years ago for my spondylitis, vertigo and migraine and this is the day I haven’t seen my doctor for a year now. My trainer Shailja Trivedi taught me the specific asanas, which was magic for my diseases. Not only this, I had allergy too, which is also under control since I have started Yoga. It has actually saved my life”, said Reeta. She is continuously practicing Yoga since last 8 years and it has changed her life completely.

Renu Rakheja

Renu overcome cervical spondylitis and migraine after joining yoga classes at Isha Yoga Center and today she is the coordinator of the center which heals about 100 patients regularly. “My cervical spondylitis left me physically impaired. I joined yoga on a friend’s suggestion as I was living on painkillers. Initially it was difficult, gradually I developed rhythm and now I teach as well”, said Renu.

Shaligram Unhale

Shaligram suffered severe spondylitis and joint pain because of which he could not even move a kilogram weight. After joining yoga classes at AIIMS last year, he is now running his electronic repair shop very well. “Now I can lift television and other machines all by myself. I perform all the asanas like kapaal bhati, anulom-vilom, bhramari etc. It gives me mental peace”, he said.

Dr. Anvita Singh, Yoga Therapist, department of Ayush, AIIMS Bhopal, says that more than 100 patients come to practice Yoga at AIIMS and most of the patients are suffering from Joint pain, spondylitis, endocrinal disorder, migraine, gynec problems, skin disorders and allergy. “There have been many instances where patients were healed only through Yoga.

Puran Singh suffered from Agoraphobia panic disorder – a mental disorder of feeling unsafe. He suffered from a back pain on the treatment of which he spent 1.25 lakhs. He was referred to us by psychology department and in five months he was completely healthy. Yoga is the best way to stay healthy.  In fact there are diseases which can be treated only through Yoga like spinal injury.

Spinal injury induces many other diseases as well like bladder placid, paralysis, cardiac disorders, sexual disorders along with psychological problems. In allopath, only physiotherapy is given to patient, which does not cure him completely. But yoga cured them completely”, said Dr. Anvita.
