Bhopal: Two sisters aged 25 and 23 sustained serious injuries when a speeding car hit them while they were waiting for a city bus on Sunday at Habibganj locality here. The accused driver was nabbed by the public from the spot and handed over to police, police said.
According to Habibganj police, on Sunday at around 5 pm, the victims identified as Pooja Chandrawat, 25 and Poonam Chandrawat, 23, both residents of Habibganj locality were waiting for city bus at Shaitan Pal square to go to New Market. While they were waiting for the bus at bus stop, a speeding driven by the accused Abhishek Hirinye, 30, a resident of Ayodhya Bypass road hit them. Accused Hirinye, tried to escape after leaving the car behind but was nabbed by the passersby only to be later handed over to police.
The two victims were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are undergoing treatment. However no case has been registered against the accused as the father of the victims refused to lodge any complaint, police added.
“We asked the victims’ father to lodge a complaint against the accused so that we could register a case against him but he denied to do so. We asked him to give that in writing that he doesn’t want any action against the accused. The accused who was nabbed by police with help of public is suspected to be in an inebriated state.
He has been sent for a medical check-up in which if it is proved that he was under the influence of alcohol then we would confiscate his car under relevant rules and regulations,” said station house officer, Habibganj, Ravinbdra Yadav.
