BHOPAL : The Bagsewania police on Friday arrested two criminals who were said to be involved in a number of chain-snatching incidents in the city. The accused used to commit these incidents after getting high on drugs. They used to come on a 200 CC Bajaj Pulsar bike and often targetted old ladies. The police recovered around 14 gold chains and necklaces from their possession and two Bajaj Pulsar bikes bearing registration numbers MP04 ZM 9561 and MP42 MA 4157.

TI Bagsewania Salil Sharma said, “We got a tip off that two suspicious bike-borne youth were roaming around in the Katara Hills area. Their details matched with the profile of chain snatchers provided by victims. The police reached the spot and took into custody Mohsin Khan, 26, son of Lalla (Irani) resident of Sanjay Nagar Raisen and Ghulam Raza, 19, son of Mazloom Raza, resident of Pathari Basti Puna. Both of them were high on drugs when they were taken into custody. During interrogation they revealed their involvement in a number of chain snatching incidents.

“One of the brothers of accused Mohsin, Mehandi alias Hasan, is in the Arthur Road Jail Mumbai following conviction in cases of chain snatching. Many cases of chain snatching are registered against Mazloom Raza, father of Ghulam,” he added.

IG said that the accused used to commit the crime in the outskirts of the city and used to flee to Raisen. Before committing the crime they used to get high on drugs so that they can drive the bike at high speeds. They used to distract the victim by asking for some local address. They had selected mainly three routes to commit the crimes including Anand Nagar-Bypass-Piplani-Govindpura, Rapadia Bypass-Bagsewania-Govindpura and Chuna Bhatti-Shahpura-Kamla Nagar-Kolar. They used to flee to Puna and Mumbai also after committing the crime.
