BHOPAL: A play ‘Cancervive: Subah Ka Pata’ dealing with the life of cancer patients, their struggles and thereby creating awareness on the disease, was staged on Friday- the second day of twelve-day long ‘Madhya Pradesh National Drama Festival’ at Antarang Hall of Bharat Bhavan.
Based on Cancer survive, a literary adaptation of the book, the play is scripted by Asif Ali, and directed by Vandana Vashisht. It was presented by New-Delhi based Theatre Group Pink Chen Campaign. It depicts how cancer survivors grapple with the disease and their inner turmoil, Rajni and Kamal, the two main protagonists both portray cancer survivors and play revolves around how they finally conquer the dreaded disease.
In an interview, the writer said about the play that “It was while writing that I realised the fight against cancer is a big thing -what is bigger is the fight a woman must wage with her identity. Women are defined by their looks, especially their long hair and breasts, but an identity should not be linked to an organ. Breast cancer became a fight for wajood. When I began to feel this, the gender element began to enter the script.” The fest is being organised by Rangmandal, a theatre wing of the Bhavan.
