BHOPAL : Finance Minister Jayant Mallaiya and BJP State President Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, addressing a joint press conference here on Wednesday, said that with the Central government launching Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme, the state government would not go ahead with its plan of formulating a new Crop Insurance Scheme.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has welcomed the new scheme. He said that it would help reduce the uncertainties of farming.
Mallaiya said the state government was considering launching the scheme by floating a new company. He said the Central scheme of crop insurance was commendable and the state government was now confident that the interests of the farmers would be protected.
Mallaiya said mobile phones and modern technology would be used for accurate assessment of damage to crops.
Replying to a question, Mallaiya said the proposal of providing mobile phones to Patwaris may be considered in this regard.
He said despite the Central government’s scheme, the state government would continue to work towards providing relief to the farmers.
Nandkumar Singh Chauhan said in the Central scheme of crop insurance, farmers would have to give insurance cess of 2 per cent on Kharif, 1.5 per cent on Rabi and 5 per cent on commercial crops.
The remaining amount would be paid by the Central government, thus benefitting a large number of farmers. Field-wise rather than region-wise assessment would be a great relief for the farmers.
