Six poachers held for killing Kanha tiger in Bhopal

BHOPAL: A team of special task force (STF) of forests department on Tuesday nabbed six poachers, who allegedly hunted a tiger at Kanha Tiger Reserve on October 22. The hunters namely Devi Singh, Dheer Singh, Gyan Singh, Sunderlal, Dharm Singh and Chhotelal have been arrested. The electric wires, which were used to kill tiger, were also recovered from the house of one of the accused. The poachers have confessed to their crime.

Range director Pankaj Shukla said that the poachers told him that they had no intention to kill tigers. They had laid electric wires to hunt wild boar or deer near Manegaon but a tiger got trapped in them. Accused Devi Singh and Chhotelal chopped off the tiger paws to sell them. Their intentions were failed when the STF team reached to them with sniffer dogs. They had burnt the paws, fearing of getting caught but finally they were nabbed.

The accused took the team to the place where tiger paws were burnt. The team recovered half-burnt paws.
