BHOPAL : The Hanumanganj police have arrested the owner of a private security agency for allegedly intercepting classified wireless signals using illegal sets on Saturday afternoon. The arrest was made a day before the arrival of BJP chief Amit Shah and other top leaders in the city. The cops are not discounting the possibility of the accused having recorded details of the movement of the VIPs and the security plan put in place for them.  The wireless sets recovered from him were said to be operating on the frequencies used by the police and the army.

Three illegal wireless sets were recovered from the accused while he has admitted having burnt 13 others.  Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 3/6 of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act 1933 and started investigations.
Investigation officer SI KG Shukla talking to ‘Free Press’ said that the accused Waqar Khan, resident of Budhwara, runs ‘Defend Security Agency’ from F1/3, Bhopal Plaza. He used to provide security to high-profile people of the city including actors and actresses coming to the city for shoot. He had the license to operate wireless sets.

The radio branch of the police had got a complaint from some aware citizen through a confidential letter that Waqar was flouting the license rules and was operating more wireless sets than the license was issued for. He was also intercepting the classified wireless signals of the police and army.
The radio branch of the police following the complaint started confidential investigations and found that the charges were true. Subsequently, the Hanumanganj police on the complaint of the Radio police registered a case against Waqar and raided his office. The police recovered three wireless sets from the agency for which he could not produce valid documents. During interrogation he revealed that he had burnt 13 other wireless sets. He had licence to operate six sets.

SP (North) Arvind Saxena talking to ‘Free Press’ said, “Waqar flouted the licencing norms. It is yet not clear whether he was involved in any spying.  It is just a coincidence that the arrest was made before the arrival of Amit Shah and other VVIPs. Further investigations are on in the case. We would produce him before the court and take him on police remand.”
Saxena further said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to further investigate the case. Led by ASP Manu Vyas, the SIT will include CSP Hanumanganj, TI Hanumanganj, TI Radio Manoj Bais and a DSP (not yet nominated).
