BHOPAL : The National Green Tribunal (NGT), on Tuesday, instructed Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration to put up boards listing what are the permissible and impermissible activities in parks.
Advocate Swapnil Gupta had filed a petition raising the issue that religious communities were misusing the parks for holding religious and community functions, thus depriving others from using them.
NGT instructed the respective Zonal Officers of the Municipal Corporation to look into the issue of encroachment and construction of platforms and religious places and other allied activities in the parks. Boards should be put up listing the permissible and impermissible activities in the park.
Gupta, talking to Free Press said, “I had filed the petition with special reference to a park located in sector-A in Sonagiri. Members of the Sikh community keep on organising religious functions there and now they are trying to construct a concrete platform in the park. Local residents cannot use the park. The NGT, taking cognisance of my petition, instructed BMC administration to display boards in parks of the state capital, mentioning what is permissible and what is not. Now, the onus is on BMC administration to ensure the implementation of NGT order to conserve parks in state capital.”
