BHOPAL: Minister for higher and technical education Umashankar Gupta’s order was openly flouted by professors, associate professors and assistant professors who are on deputation as they did not return to parent department within the 24 hour deadline given by the minister.
Only one assistant professor GS Pandey, whose deputation was in limbo in Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, on the post of examination controller, returned to parent department to give his joining in directorate of higher education on Thursday, said officials.
Pandey, an assistant professor, posted earlier in Mankunvar College in Jabalpur, was sent on deputation on December 19 as examination controller in the university but the varsity officials did not accept his services. Varsity officials said only PG principal or professor of university can be appointed as examination controller.
The minister, who scrapped 40 teachers’ deputation on other departments, quoting their presence in classroom, had issued deadline to join them in 24 hours on Wednesday. The order for cancelling deputation was issued on January 17 by DHE officials.
DHE officials had picked the 40 professors for cancellation their deputation arbitrarily even as there is a long list of such professors with the department. Many professors, who are relatives of senior IAS officers were spared. The department does not have record of some professors who are on deputation for long time.Deadline for deputationists to report to directorate expires
