Vehicles stranded in traffic jam on Raj Bhavan due to oath taking ceremony on Thursday.

BHOPAL :  Traffic was thrown haywire due to traffic diversion at Raj Bhavn on Thursday following oath taking ceremony for cabinet expansion. The vehicles remained stranded for a long time on Raj Bhavan Road and at various rotaries in the vicinity.

Traffic jams were predominantly noticed on the long stretch of road from Police Control Room, Raj Bhavn Trisection, Roshanpura Square, Banganga Square, Rangmahal Square. Owing to the ceremony the traffic was blocked from Raj Bhavan to state aquarium because of which all the traffic movement was diverted on the straight road from Police Control Room to Roshanpura Square.

As it was the time for all offices to be over, all the employees rushed to their homes leading to large number of vehicles creating chaos in traffic. Public transport vehicles remained stranded in traffic jam.  However, traffic police personnel were deployed to regulate the traffic but they looked helpless. Barricades which were erected for traffic diversion too created problems.

It was a hard nut to crack for traffic cops in regulating traffic which was auto-mode as they could not regulate the traffic from Police Control Room to Roshanpura Square.

Road side vendors which police had not removed created additional problems for traffic at this crucial juncture.

Raj Kumar, riding a four-wheeler, said, “At least police should have removed the vendors for the time being so that roadsides would have free for clearing traffic. Traffic police tried to regulate traffic without disturbing the road side vendors. Since the traffic was diverted, police should have taken all measures.”

Biker Jugal reacted in similar manner stating that traffic police should have cleared roadsides, auto-rickshaw and vendors to manage the limited space on the roads so that it would have helped in negotiating the traffic.

After such reaction from commuters, police tried to adjust the vendors but it was too late and till then as the situation went beyond the control.

The traffic jam added traffic pressure on parallel roads in colonies like Malviya Nagar, MLA Rest House and 74-Bunglows.
