BHOPAL : In an apparent bid to dilute the criteria for university teachers’ selection, the State government has formed a four-member panel, including three vice-chancellors to start state level eligibility test (SLET) again.

It will be at par with the national eligibility test (NET) conducted by UGC for entry-level recruitment of teachers in higher education. The UGC in 2011, made mandatory NET qualification or Ph D for job as assistant professors.

Department of higher education considers the NET as tough test for MP students to bid for holding SLET that first time held in 2003-04, only once in Madhya Pradesh.

The department, in an order to initiate SLET again, said the panel headed by BU Vice chancellor MD Tiwari, Jabalpur VC Dr KNS Yadav and DAVV Indore, VC Dr DP Singh and director of Vyapam will frame policy to hold the SLET and get accreditation from University Grants Commission (UGC) for the test.

The committee will submit its report in two months to the department.

The department mooted the idea of holding separate test for MP students only to dilute criteria, said some professors. It would discourage state students from joining the national level competition. “Teachers in university and colleges are getting salary as per UGC scale in the state but when its come to eligibility criteria, the government wants to dilute the norms,” said a professor wishing anonymity.
