Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Madhya Pradesh until May 18. Thunderstorms and rain are likely in many districts across the state over the next few days. 

According to forecasts, strong winds and rainfall may affect up to 27 districts, including Indore and Ujjain, on May 15.

May 15: Heavy winds and possible rain are expected in districts like Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Dewas, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Harda, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Morena, Bhind, Panna, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Maihar, and Umaria.

What do meteorologists say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s senior meteorologists, a cyclonic circulation over Gujarat and an active western disturbance are responsible for the current weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh.

Heat is expected to increase after May 20. However, another spell of weather change is likely in the last week of May.

May 16: Light rain may occur in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Morena, Guna, Ashoknagar, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Vidisha, Sagar, Damoh, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Katni, Chhindwara, Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla, Betul, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Alirajpur, and Jhabua.

May 17: Thunderstorms and rain are expected in a wide area including Bhopal, Indore, Sehore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Datia, Nivadi, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Damoh, Ashoknagar, Niwari, and others.

Temperature records

On Wednesday, Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Ujjain, Raisen, Mandsaur, and Neemuch witnessed rainfall. Meanwhile, strong winds were reported in Sehore, Barwani, Ratlam, Khargone, Betul, Chhindwara, Seoni, Umaria, Balaghat, Dindori, and Anuppur.

Khajuraho was the hottest place in the state at 43.7°C, followed by Nowgong (42.5°C), Tikamgarh (42°C), Satna (41.8°C), and Rewa (41.5°C). Whereas, in the major cities, the temperature was recorded as - Bhopal: 37.8°C; Indore: 36.8°C; Gwalior: 41.8°C; Ujjain: 37.7°C; Jabalpur: 39.1°C & Pachmarhi (hill station): 32.6°C.
