BHOPAL : A girl student of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) hanged self in her hostel room on Wednesday. She was a third year Mechanical Engineering student.
The suicide note recovered from the spot does not throw much light on the reason(s) that compelled her to take the extreme step.
According to the police, 20-year-old Malla S. Pallavi daughter of MV Appa Rao of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) hanged self in her room in the Kalpana Chawla Hostel on the MANIT premises. Cops surmise that the girl’s suicide was due to study-related stress.
The body of Pallavi was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the room at around 1 pm by her roommate Naveena. She told the police that Pallavi was not attending classes for the last two days as she was running fever. Naveena left for the classes in the morning. When she returned, she found the door of the room locked from the inside. When her knocks did not elicit any response, she called other inmates of the hostel and they broke the window panes. On peeping inside, they found Pallavi hanging. The Hostel Warden was informed, who summoned the police. According to her friends, Pallavi was home-sick for the past some time and wanted to visit her parents. She had talked to her parents on Tuesday evening. Naveena told the cops that Pallavi was upset because of her poor result. She had failed in two subjects.
According to investigating Officer SI Amar Singh, a suicide note, written in Tamil, was found from the room. It only said that she was missing her parents for the past one week and that she couldn’t live without them. The suicide sent a shock wave through the college campus.
