BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh is a good place to live in for ex-servicemen. The state government is running around 18 schemes for their welfare.
MP is the only state which is providing financial assistance of Rs 4,000 pm to the World War II non-pension veterans and their widows. The chief minister is planning to increase the financial assistance for these 318 veterans to up to Rs 10,000.
Financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 per annum is given to the parents whose daughters are employed in Indian Armed Forces. There is also cash grant for medal awardees for gallantry and distinguished service. Ex-servicemen get two percent reservation in allotment of houses and plots developed by housing boards and free medical aid in government hospitals.
There is relaxation in physical standard tests for recruitment in State Police Force for ex-servicemen. Ten percent posts are reserved for them in group ‘C’ posts and 20 percent in Group ‘D’ posts. They also get priority in allotment of industrial plots, sheds and Fair Price Shops.
There is three percent reservation in MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BNYS and BSc Nursing courses for the wards of ex-servicemen. They get gun licenses within three months of application and are also entitled to concession in the fee.
Financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh is given to the families of the martyrs and disabled defence personnel who are killed to sustain injuries in wars, actions, terrorist attacks, naxalite attacks and IS duties.
There is provision for special employment to one family member of defence personnel killed in line of duty in class- II, III and IV posts as per qualification.
Marriage grant of Rs 10,000 is given to daughters and sisters of personnel killed or disabled in line of duty. The state government also gives priority in allotment of 5 acre non irrigated agriculture land or 2.5 acre irrigated land to ex-servicemen but since 2003 none of the ex-men have received the land.
