Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): CBSE-affiliated schools in the city will be played ‘Sadak Suraksha Anthem’ every day in morning assemblies to sensitise children about road safety.

Also, short films on road safety will be shown to the children in their classes and will also be uploaded on the official WhatsApp groups of schools. This is a part of a ‘Sadak Suraksha Abhiyan’ launched by the CBSE.

The Road Safety Anthem, titled ‘Parwah Karenge, Surakshit Rahenge,’ has been written by noted lyricist and Prasoon Joshi and sung by playback singer Shankar Mahadevan. The anthem stresses how one should have ‘Parwah’ (care) for one’s life as well as others on the road.

The CBSE has produced 16 shorts films with titles like ‘Jaldi mat machao, aaram se aao’ and ‘Sadak suraksha ki pathshala’ to address specific aspects of road safety. These will be played at all important events in schools. “Loss of lives in road accidents is tragic but preventable. As such, children need to be trained in using roads safely and properly.

It is very important,” said principal of Ivy Global School, Rajesh Sharma. Similarly, principal of Anand Vihar School, Shailesh Jhope said that they are already very conscious of the need for inculcating good road habits in children.

“Let alone students, we don’t even allow teachers riding two-wheelers without helmets to enter the premises of the school,” he said. “We will play the anthem daily at the main entry to the school so that all students can hear it,” he said.

PRO of Campion School, Winston Minj said that the school would be joining the campaign with full enthusiasm. “Good habits, when inculcated at a young age, remain with a person lifelong,” he added.

About the logic behind launching the Abhiyan, CBSE, said in a circular addressed to the heads of all schools affiliated to it, that last year, more than 1.8 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents in the country and more than 10,000 of them were below the age of 18 years.

Suraksha Abhiyan is an attempt to sensitise children who have an immense potential to act as agents of change, it further stated.
