Bhopal: Drive will inspire protection of environment globally: CM

Bhopal: Expressing concern over the rising temperature of Earth due to global warming, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that tree plantation is essential for giving clean environment to the coming generation. He said that by record plantations at Narmada river basin and banks, people of the state have spread the message of environment conservation to the world.

The chief minister was addressing a massive crowd present after the plantation at Lamhetaghat in Jabalpur district on Sunday. General public planted more than 42 lakh plants in one day in Jabalpur district. Chouhan said that he had taken the resolve for widespread plantation on the banks of Narmada on July 2 during the Narmada Seva Yatra so that the Narmada flows incessantly. The plantation programme is taking actual shape today with widespread participation by the people of the state. He said that he was happy to see people planting sapling at various places.

Mentioning the Paris Agreement from the environment conservation point of view, the chief minister said that by 2050, the temperature of the earth will rise by 2 degree Celsius. Glaciers will begin to melt, oceans will swell, villages and island will submerge under water. Rain cycle will turn uncontrollable and the very existence of human beings would be at risk.

Today the soil of Madhya Pradesh is spreading message and trying to save the Narmada from climatic changes. All sections of the society were seen participating in the massive plantation campaign. People belonging to the Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Christian community took part enthusiastically in the plantation programme at several places in the district including Lamhetaghat on the banks of Narmada. Editors of newspapers, representatives of print and electronic media and journalists also planted saplings on chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s call and became witness to the world record.
