It took 19 hours to rescue to team to complete rescue operation

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Two youths including a person who cleared National Defence Academy examination drowned in Narmada river in Hoshangabad district, police said on Tuesday. While the rescue team had taken out the body of a youth on Monday evening, other body was found floating in the river on Tuesday morning. The two deceased were only sons of their respective parents.

The incident took place at Herbal Park ghat in Hoshangabad. According to police, three friends identified as Daksha Khare, Raj Thakur and Namya Gaur from Rasulia locality went to Herbal Park ghat to take bath. While Raj and Namya drowned, Daksha was rescued by a boatman who spotted three youths drowning.

Talking to journalists, Daksha said that he was sitting on river bank and was on Facebook live, while his friends entered water to take bath. “When I first spotted them drowning, I thought they were enjoying themselves, as I was doing Facebook Live. When I realised misfortune, I too jumped into the water shouting for help,” he told journalists. Daksha was saved.

“On getting information, a police team along with divers were immediately sent to the spot,” said superintendent of police (SP), Hoshangabad, Santosh Singh Gaur.

He further said that the body of a youth identified as Raj Thakur was recovered on Monday while Namya Gaur’s body was found floating 2 km away from the incident spot on Tuesday morning.

According to information, Namya Gaur, who was the only son of his parents, had qualified for NDA and was to join National Defence Academy, Dehradun in July last week.
