CS may hold video-conference on Thursday
BHOPAL: The banks across the country, which were closed on Wednesday following de-monetisation of currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, would be opening from Thursday. These old notes would be exchanged and deposited.
The state government, in order to control the rush in banks, has instructed all collectors and superintendents of police (SPs) to ensure that the situation remains under control.
The SPs have been instructed to make sure that there are adequate police arrangements at banks and post offices, to ensure smooth functioning.
Collectors have been asked to talk to bank officials to make arrangements ensuring no inconvenience to common man.
Chief secretary BP Singh may convene meetings with collectors through video-conferencing.
Petrol pumps, hospitals and other institutions have been asked to accept de-monetised notes. Collectors have been instructed to see that people does not face inconvenience.
They have been asked to put a check on any illegal attempt to exchange de-monetized notes. Sources said government has asked to put a tab on jewellers selling ornaments at high rates in exchange of de-monetised notes.
Sources said instructions have been given to check hike in gold prices in Indore.
It came to fore that gold was sold in Indore at Rs 50,000 per 10 grams. District administration has also been asked to remain alert till the process of exchange of currency notes concludes.
I had withdrawn Rs 2L yesterday; would deposit them: Mallaiya
Finance minister in state government, Jayant Mallaiya has said that collectors have been instructed to ensure that there should be no chaos. He told he had withdrawn Rs 2 lakh from the bank yesterday which he would have to now deposit again in the bank. He said inconvenience may last for a couple of days. Mallaiya said government would watch the situation for some days before taking any step. Mallaiya said if any big step is taken, it causes temporary convenience but it would certainly bring change in country’s economy.
