BHOPAL: The chief whip of the Congress party, Ramnivas Rawat, in State Assembly has demanded from the governor that the winter session should be extended to 15 days in place of five days.
The chief whip of Congress Party, Ramnivas Rawat through a written letter to the Governor, OP Kohli, has demanded that larger states need at least 70 sittings. In a meeting held in Goa of all state assembly chief whips, it was decided that in small states minimum 60 and in big states minimum 70 sitting should be made mandatory so that the work of assembly can be conducted properly.
He added that in the 14th State Assembly 156 reports were tabled, but on these tabled reports no debates or discussions were held. Similarly, the reports tabled during 12th and 13th assemblies, were also not discussed.
He demanded that it is the need of the hour, to discuss the maters related to jailbreak, deaths in police custody, increase in the numbers of farmers suicide, deteriorating health services and law and order in the state.
Distribution of adulterated and sub standard food grains, Simhastha scam and many others also needs to be discussed over, he said in his letter.
He alleged that the state government is intentionally shortening the state assembly session days and does not intend to discuss the matters in the assembly, which is a non democratic stand of the state government.
