Bhopal: “We are sisters, but for us duty is first. We are responsible people to handle the law and order situation. We will celebrate our Raksha Bandhan within the duty hours,” say women police constables, on Sunday. However, the DIG Bhopal has made the women cops happy through his surprising orders. One of the constables Namtrata Mishra added that they are also human being and have families, but the post they are holding is very much important.
The bazaars are crowded with people and the women cops are deployed to control the crowd and maintain law and order situation.
She has a brother – Nishit Mishra – who is undergoing police training in Gwalior and would not come home to celebrate the festival. “I won’t cry as he is not coming for Raksha Bandhan. I am happy that my brother has been selected for police job. I have sent the Rakhi to him through postal services,” said the woman constable.
Similarly, Rashmi Mangoai who hails from Sagar, said that her brothers are studying and as she cannot go home for the festival, she has called the brothers to Bhopal to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. “It is great that we have given some time to celebrate the festival, but celebrating the festival at home with parents, relatives and other sisters is totally different. But it is okay that we can enjoy at least some time with the brothers here,” she said.
Rekha Uike, a resident of Betul district, is also sad as she cannot celebrate the festival at home. But she too has called her brother Manoj Uike, who is teacher, to the city to celebrate the festival. “We all were sad as our duties have been fixed from Monday morning and we were thinking that we would not be able to tie Rakhi to our brothers who are coming from outside. But DIG sir has given time to celebrate the day, and we are happy,” she said.
Time granted for festival
DIG Santosh Kumar Singh informed that he had exempted all women staff, ranking from sub inspector to constable from duty in the first half of the day. That they can perform their rituals easily during that period and after that they have to join their duties. The police staff of all police stations have been instructed to keep close vigil on all movements in the area and if they needed women constables, the higher rank officers are there to handle the situation, he added.
